INSTALLATION ON

THE REALES ALCAZARES

Two glass sheets in the English Garden, Sevilla

The English garden is a space surrounded peripherally by walls, with leafy trees, pools of water and some sculptures on pedestals. The restoration project, separated from the symbolic and figurative role of the "objects" that pose in the garden, alters the physical reality and establishes a new relationship with the spectator, whose sensory experience with the material is essential to temporarily transform the meaning of this scene. Two glass sheets 2,52 metres wide and 6 metres long, sunk in the ground and placed in a clearing in the garden, their tones change according to the natural light that is on the surface. Conceived for a specific place, the work has been with the technical study of the material and its response to different types of light during one spring. In order to solve the problem and to obtain all the desired shades of intensity, models in the factory were worked with, through joining tempered monolithic glass and plastic layers of varying thicknesses and treatments, that later were taken to the garden on different days. The result is a temporary subversion of the images of the garden that changes with the light of the day and the movement of the spectator when approaching, entering or exiting it. They can be translucent, leaving nature veiled. Opaque, they are walls of white light. In the morning, reflecting mirrors. When night falls, nocturnal scenes of projected images.
